If you live in a climate where you run the risk of a freezing or if you just want to have a warmer pool, you may want to consider building a solar pool heater. Because you are using passive solar heat, you are not wasting electricity and you are reducing the number of moving parts needed to heat your pool. Cut 2-by-4 plywood into 2 lengths of 5 feet and 2 lengths of 2 feet 7 inches. These will be the sides of the box that you will be putting the piping into. Take a 5-foot length of plywood and place it onto one of the 5-foot edges of the particle board. The narrow side of the plywood should be in contact with the particle board. This will be the edge of the long side of the box. Screw the wood together with the screws going through the particle board first. Repeat this step with the other piece of plywood.
