How Do You Make Scented Potpourri With Rice & Oil?
Potpourri makes your room and home smell good. When you make homemade potpourri, you can choose any scent, perhaps one that reminds you of a favorite time in your childhood or one that helps you relax. Making a scented potpourri from oil requires using fragrance oils–artificial scents found in soap-making and craft stores–or essential oils–oils extracted from trees, fruits, flowers and herbs, found in health food stores. You also need a carrier material such as dry rice. A fixative like orris root, which has its own violet aroma, will help essential oils keep their scent longer. Pour 1 tsp. of essential oil or fragrance oil of your choice into a 1-qt. glass jar. Roll the glass jar around with the lid off to coat the inside of the glass with oil. Add 1 lb. of uncooked rice to the jar. Do not use instant rice, but regular, uncooked grains of rice.
