How Do You Make Rugs Stay Put?
Rugs add color and warmth to a space. But they can also add something no one wants: a safety hazard. The smaller the rug, the more likely it is to slide on a slick tile or hardwood floor, perhaps causing a fall. A couple of products, carpet-and-rug tape and nonslip rug pads, can make rugs stay put. One advantage that the pad has over the tape is that a rug placed on a pad will wear better and last longer than one placed directly onto a hard floor. Carpet-and-Rug Tape Step 1 Buy double-sided carpet-and-rug tape. Different tapes are formulated for different surfaces, so make sure the one you choose will not damage the floor beneath your rug. Step 2 Clean the floor where your rug will go. Grit or dirt on the floor will hamper the tape’s performance. Step 3 Place the tape around the perimeter of the bottom side of your rug. Step 4 Stick the rug to the floor where you want it to go. Most tapes for use with wood or tile floors can be repositioned, so you can adjust the placement if needed. N
