How Do You Make Rolled Hems On Doll Clothes?
Designing and sewing homemade doll clothing is not only fun but also extremely easy–especially hem “rolling,” or freehand hem folding. Here is a quick and painless method for completing hems. Fold up once to your hemline, if the fabric isn’t too flimsy or sheer, to make a wide hem. Use a seamstress’s measuring tape or ruler (optional) to make the hem uniform or to flatten the hem at the fold line. Tack in place lightly with pins or with a few quick stitches as you go, and then stitch the entire hem by hand (running stitch) or with a sewing machine. Press the hem with an iron (optional), or leave slightly bulged at the fold as determined by your personal tastes, the clothing style or the doll’s physical appearance. Repeat step 1, but fold up toward the final hem line to half of the original width for a more narrow hem, and tack into place. You can attempt to press the fold at this point, or fold again to the hemline and then attempt to press once you’ve sewn the hem. Sew the narrow hem
