Making roman shades involves a small amount of sewing, whip stitching and a minor amount of hardware. You can create roman shades for your windows in under an hour, if you have the materials on hand. Step 1 Attach the 1 by 1 board that is as wide as your window with attachment screws at the top of your window frame, wherever you plan to attach your roman shade. Step 2 Cut two pieces of fabric one inch larger than your window opening in both height and width. This will allow for your seams.
