How Do You Make Red Wine Cranberry Sauce?
Cranberry sauce is a Thanksgiving staple. For a more sophisticated variation of the old favorite, why not try this recipe using red wine. This recipe is very forgiving and you can make simple substitutions for things you might not have on hand. In a medium sauce pan boil wine and add 1 cup sugar. Let the sugar dissolve thoroughly before adding other ingredients. Once the sugar has dissolved, immediately reduce heat to prevent mixture from burning. Peel and remove seeds from oranges, then blend thoroughly. In a pinch, you can also replace the pureed oranges with 1/2 cup orange juice and 1 pureed apple. Turn the heat down to simmer and add the cranberries, pureed orange and spices. Put the lid on and let it simmer for half an hour. If you want a chunkier sauce, simmer for a shorter length of time or just until the berries have all popped. Serve chilled or warm. Enjoy!
