My first introduction to Red Velvet Cake was the groom’s cake in the movie Steel Magnolias. Something about the vibrant redness of the cake appealed to my morbid sensibilities and I had to know more. Red Velvet is actually Devil’s Food Cake with red food coloring. It’s not clear where the cake originated (some say it’s a Southern tradition) but wherever it comes from, it’s a delicious and decadent treat.
