Review the policies and procedures for your local area to ensure you use the specific type of plaster they recommend when making casts of tire treads or other impressions. Practice making quality castings before you attempt to do so on actual evidence. Mix up plaster with water according to the plaster’s directions. Stir it up well so there are no lumps of any size in the plaster. Use a small scoop or bowl and gently pour the plaster into it and over the tire tread. Cover at least 6 inches of the tread, if available, and make sure the plaster extends beyond the sides. Pour gently to avoid disturbing the tire tread during the casting process.
