How Do You Make Perfect Half-Lap Joints?

How to Make Perfect Half-Lap Joints Wednesday March 5, 2008 A very common but extremely simple woodworking joint is the half-lap joint. A half-lap joint is a joint where one half of the thickness of the connecting surfaces of two pieces of stock is removed, and the two boards are then attached to one another with glue and screws. As displayed in the graphic on this page (for illustration purposes, one piece of stock is shown in green and the other in blue), when the half-lap joint is properly formed, it adds no thickness to the stock. There are a number of cases where a half lap joint is the perfect joint for two pieces of stock. Learn when to use half-lap joints, and which of your woodworking tools can be used to properly and safely cut the joints. (c) 2008 Chris Baylor licensed to About.com, Inc. More about: ???–>Comments<
