Grilled cheese is a comfort food for many. Here’s how to make it perfect — every time! Step 1 The best grilled cheese is made with frozen bread and softened butter. The butter will spread easily without tearing up the bread. Place butter in a small dish and microwave for just a few seconds (no more than 10). Spread butter on each side of the bread. Place cheese between bread. You may also want to add tomotoes, fresh basil, apples, or other fillings. Step 2 The secret to perfect grilled cheese is LOW HEAT. Turn the burner on low-medium. Grill sandwich until bread is golden brown on one side, usually 5-7 minutes. Flip the sandwich to grill the other side. The second side will grill faster because the frying pan is heated through. Step 3 Once the grilled cheese is golden brown on both sides, remove it from the frying pan. I like to cut mine into four small triangles. Serve with tomato soup for a true “comfort food” lunch!
