With the original, uncut pen blank as a rectangle with sharp sides, you may need to start cutting at one side and then flip the pen blank over and start cutting at the same point on that side until you break through. Step 2 Place the mandrel into the headstock of the lathe. Mount the two pen blank parts onto the mandrel, adding spacers and the brass screw from your mandrel.
