How Do You Make Patriarchal Blessing Envelopes?
The Patriarchal Blessing is a form of personal revelation practiced by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When a member reaches age 16, he or she can receive a personal blessing from an appointed clergyman, known as the patriarch. The blessing is pronounced, recorded, typed and mailed. It is to be used as a spiritual guide. A handmade envelope can keep this special document safe. Cut out a rectangular piece of fabric, 13 x 9 inches. Trim one of the 9-inch sides so that the top edge, which will become the flap of the envelope, is curved. Press down a ¼-inch hem on the straight edge, using the opposite end of the fabric. Press that hem over again to hide the rough edge of the fabric. Sew along the hemline. Fold the envelope so that 1/3 of the fabric is left as a single thickness to form the flap. Stitch ¼-inch from the right and left edges of the folded material to form a pocket. Trim the hemmed corners at a 45-degree angle to reduce bulk, then turn the envelope
