How Do You Make Parts For Model Cars?
Store-bought model cars typically come with everything you need to make a complete model. Sometimes they even come with extras that you can incorporate to give your model a unique, customized appearance. Even so, there may be times when you want to give your model cars some distinctive features like a hood ornament, a set of tire-razors (for a spy’s car) or even just custom license plates. Get accurate measurements of your model so you can determine the right size for the parts you choose to make. If you’re going to make custom hubcaps, for example, then measure the interior of the tires to ensure the hubcaps will fit. Do the same for bumpers, and note the exact location on the chassis where the bumpers secure to the frame. Pick your construction material. Most often you can use thin wood like balsa wood or model plastic, but it’s also possible to use scrap metal left over in some models (called “flash”) if it’s the right size.
