Braided rugs have been a simple, affordable way to add color and comfort to homes for hundreds of years. One of the most uncomplicated ways is to make an oval-shaped braided rug that does not require a loom, any special tools or even a needle or thread. Draw an oval onto the carpet padding in the size that you want your rug to be. Cut the shape out of the padding using the scissors. Tear or cut the fabric into long, thin strips.
