How Do You Make Onion Mustard Salad Dressing — A Secret Family Recipe?
This secret family recipe has been in my family for a long, long time. It was given to my mother by an elderly woman named Tess, who was a cook at a remote Alaskan lodge. This salad dressing was very popular, but Tess always refused to give the recipe to anyone. When she finally gave it to my mother, she made her promise not to give the recipe to anyone else. My mother kept that promise. My little brother, on the other hand, traded the recipe to a neighbor in exchange for a bicycle. Put the first four ingredients (sugar, mustard, oil, and salt) in the mixer. Loosely cover with a towel to contain splashes. Mix on low speed until blended. Mix on medium speed until the mixture thickens to the consistency of honey. Add the grated onion, the vinegar, and the celery seed. Mix on low speed until blended. Put the finished Onion Mustard Salad Dressing in jars. Refrigerate.
