The most popular type of kaleidoscope, a cellscope, is made up of a mirrored tube with an encapsulated end. The end is filled with brightly colored objects and, in some cases, oil, which swirl together to create a beautiful array of designs when viewed through the eyepiece against a bright light. Making oil-filled kaleidoscopes can be a creative way to take a new look at the world. Step 1 Stand the tube on end and glue one clear glass disk somewhat inside the edge of the other end. Place pieces of colored glass and a small amount of baby oil on top of the second disk. Glue the second clear glass disk at the outer edge of the pipe to create a small, oil-filled object chamber.
