How Do You Make Oat & Nut Milk?
If you have lactose intolerance or a milk allergy, the thought of cookies or cereal with milk may make you sick. Fortunately, you can make your own milk alternatives at home. Home preparation puts you in total control over the ingredients added to your milk. Both oat and nut milks require soaking, straining and chilling time, so prepare them the day before you will need your milk substitute. Step 1 Place the rolled oats or nuts into a bowl with 4 cups of water. Cover and let soak for 24 to 36 hours. Step 2 Drain the nut soaking liquid, but keep the liquid from soaking the rolled oats. Step 3 Pour 4 cups of fresh water over the soaked nuts. Step 4 Transfer the soaked oats and soaking water–or nuts and fresh water–to a blender.
