How Do You Make Nylon Headbands For Children?

The craze at the moment seems to be making nylon headbands out of knee highs or children’s tights. While I can see why this would interest people as you can make them without sewing and they are easy to make. I actually think making nylon headbands the old fashion way is easier and cheaper! Measure the part of the head where you want your band to sit. My son’s head measures in at 21 inches. If you do not have a bendable measuring tape you can use a piece of string or ribbon and then measure it against a yard stick. Cut a piece of nylon 3 inches wide by the length of your child’s head measurement minus 2 inches. The piece I cut was 3 inches by 19 (21 inches minus 2 inches). Fold right sides together lengthwise and sew along the length with a small zig zag stitch (3) in a close stitch length (2). This will allow your fabric to maintain it’s stretch ability while closing up the seam securely. Use a ½ inch seam allowance and then trim close to seam when finished. Turn right side out. With
