How Do You Make Non Alcoholic Wassail?
Here’s a cold weather favorite. Traditionally used to warm visitors and homestead alike, the Wassail bowl is a delicious, old fashioned holiday beverage that fills the air with the spicy fragrance I always associate with winter, holidays, family and home. It’s an easy thing to include the age appropriate children in this recipe: let them fill and tie the cheesecloth bag tightly, make the tea, stir the lemon syrup. Hope you love it like we still do. Make tea with water and tea-bags. Set aside. Put all the spices into the cheesecloth bag and tie off securely. Combine lemon juice and sugar in quart saucepan and reduce over medium heat until a strong lemon syrup is achieved. Simmer tea and cheesecloth mix together for 10 minutes in big pot, let stand for two (2) hours. Do not remove cheesecloth bag during cool down. After cooling, add cider, pineapple juice and lemon syrup. Simmer for one (1) hour. Remove cheesecloth bag and let stand for at least 8 hours.
