How Do You Make Nectar For Hummingbirds?
Hummingbird nectar is an easy and inexpensive way to bring the beautiful birds to your yard. Hummingbirds need lots of sugar in their diet and often prefer sugar water to nectar found in flowers. You can also buy nectar, but this method of making nectar is very simple and cheaper than commercial nectar. Decide how much nectar you want to make. You need 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. Start with 4 cups of water; you can add more later if needed. Measure the water and add it to the sauce pan. Bring the water to a rolling boil. Add the sugar to the boiling water and stir. Boil the mixture for a few minutes, then remove the pan from the burner. Allow the mixture to cool, then fill your feeder. Place extra nectar in the refrigerator and use within one week.
