How Do You Make Natural Ph Test Strips?
You can make your own Ph strips at home using red cabbage and coffee filters. These strips are natural and do not contain any chemicals that may be present on the store bought Ph test strips. Therefore, if you are testing your saliva for Ph you could place it directly on your cheek without worrying about chemical transfer. Making your own Ph strips from red cabbage also makes a great science project to do with the kids. Grate red cabbage into small pieces. Place cabbage into pot and cover with water. Only use enough water to cover. Boil the mixture for 20-30 minutes. The liquid should be dark and purple. Let the cabbage juice cool. Decant the fluid into a glass jar or bottle using a stainer to remove any loose cabbage pieces. Take coffee filters (or other porous white paper)and cut into smaller pieces. You can place the strips into a bowl of red cabbage juice to soak or you can lay them on a tray and use an eye dropper to drop the juice onto the coffee filters. Ensure they are complete
