One of my fondest childhood memories was coming home from school and experiencing the heavenly scent of my mom’s chocolate cake. When I was in junior high….I think they call that “middle school” now….I started paying attention to the magical ingredients that went into this splendorous dessert, and as I recall, even at the tender age of 13, I was delighted to discover its simplicity. Mom was such a creative soul that no one ever knew, unless they saw the box in the trash, that this cake came from one of those prepackaged mix! And unlike some things that taste so good as a child (Hostess cupcakes and snowballs as an example)….and then make us wonder if tiny elvish thieves robbed all the flavor prior to packaging….this cake actually remains a sensory delight to this day.
