Creating a mold for concrete is a great way to use your artistic talent to fashion decorative objects for your home, garden, or for art’s sake alone. Here’s the gist: You make a rubber mold in which you’ll pour concrete. What happens is that the concrete fills the negative space of the object you want to make. Peel the rubber mold off to reveal your beautiful new statue or other artistic inspiration. Prepare the initial model so that the rubber will not completely stick to it when you’re creating the mold. First you’ll use a sealing agent. If the model is concrete, stone or wood, then it is likely porous. That means any liquid could seep into the model. Shellac, paste wax or petroleum jelly make excellent sealing agents. Put on a coating and let it dry for seven minutes. Then apply the second coating and wait ten minutes before the next step.
