How Do You Make Model Volcano Erupt?
So you’ve constructed your model volcano. You’ve painted it and maybe even added a few little twigs from some evergreen bushes to represent trees growing on the mountainside. But to see if it really works, you must make that volcano erupt. Put a newspaper or towel under the model volcano. Once it erupts it will get very messy. Put 2 tbsp. of baking soda into the hole at the top of the model volcano. If you don’t have a small cup or something similar to hold the erupting materials, now would be a good time to get one and insert it into your model. A small medicine cup should be sufficient. Mix about 3 oz. of vinegar with the food coloring. The food coloring is optional. Pour the vinegar solution into the cup holding the baking soda. Your eruption should happen immediately.
