How Do You Make Milk Paint Easily?

0

Milk paint has been used for many generations; the earliest paints was made from a combination of milk, lime and pigments. It was often used on early American furniture and is still in demand in restoring antiques and for furniture reproductions. Firstly, and most important, make sure you use hydrated lime, NOT quicklime! You can find hydrated lime at most builders merchants or home stores. The easiest pigment to use is Tempera powdered pigment, but you can use almost anything that will color the mixture. The earliest painters used whatever substances they could find in nature. Experiment with a small amount of paint. Mix a little of the milk together with the hydrated lime to make a thin paste. Stir in the rest of the milk, then add the pigment and stir well until all of the color is even. If you need different colors, seperate the paint base into different containers, one for each color.
