How Do You Make Metal Arrow Heads?
For the traditional or primitive archer, making your own arrow heads is the final piece to a complete traditional hunting kit. Steel broadheads have been used for centuries for hunting and warfare, and the principles still hold true in today’s world of expensive alloys. With a piece of carbon steel and a little time, you can make your own heads as effective as their price-inflated counterparts. Shaping the Head Step 1 Trace the design for your arrow heads on a piece of poster board and cut it out. Generally make the heads longer than they are wide, but with plenty of cutting diameter for hunting. Howard Hill used a head 3 inches long by 1 inch wide. Leave a tongue from the back of the head the width of your arrow shafts by about 15 mm long to secure it to the shafts. Step 2 Trace the design onto the steel using a nail or other sharp, hard instrument. Step 3 Clamp the steel in your vice and cut out the head with your saw.
