Kanzashi is a style of Japanese hair ornament made popular in the Edo period designed to complement long hair. Today, kanzashi ornaments are worn mainly by working geisha, brides and others in full kimono wear, although there has been a resurgence in popularity among young women wishing to add a decorative touch to their modern look. Kanzashi ornaments may include combs, decorative rods, fans, jewels and flowers. Kanzashi flowers are most associated with maiko, or apprentice geisha, and are popular among girls. Step 1 Cut your cardstock into one-inch circles, creating as many circles as you wish. Cover each cardstock circle with a square of fabric, gluing the fabric down in the back. Set the circles aside.
