Italian long bread is a treat with any Italian dinner from spaghetti to eggplant Parmesan. Similar in appearance to French bread, the Italian long bread has a crispy crust and soft insides. Italian long bread also is excellent served with soups and salads. While it does take some time to put together, once it is baked, you will have a bread that you are proud to serve at your table. Combine 2 cups of flour, 1 tbsp. salt and 1 tbsp. butter in a large bowl. Use the pastry blender to work the softened butter into the flour until it resembles coarse meal. Combine 1/2 cup warm water, 1 tbsp. of sugar and 2 packages of yeast. Allow the yeast mixture to double in size and volume. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mix and stir with a wooden spoon until the mixture is thick. Add 1 1/4 cups warm water and stir to thin the yeast and flour mixture. Begin adding flour to the mixture 1 cup at a time and stir to incorporate fully. Continue to add flour until the dough forms a ball in the bowl. Tu
