Curtain rods and their hardware can cost a small fortune, but with a little work and some imagination you can make your own for much less. The Rods — You can purchase PVC piping at just about any hardware store. It comes in several width sizes so you can make your curtain rods as thin or thick as you like. PVC piping is very inexpensive. I got 20 feet for less than $3.00. It is usually is sold in 10 foot lengths, but most stores will cut it to size for you. It is also very easy to cut with just about any saw. Cut it to fit across your window from sill to sill, plus a few more inches on each side, depending on your taste.
