A snare trap is the most effective hunting trap used to catch rabbits. Before setting snares or other traps, check local hunting and trapping regulations through your state’s Department of Fish and Game. You may need to procure a special license for setting snares or limit yourself to trapping in a certain areas. Some regions may also dictate what sort of wire your snare is made of and what diameter it should be for a given animal. The best snare diameter for rabbits is usually around 4 inches. Cut a piece of wire about 22 inches long. Bend the wire in half about 2 inches from one end. Grasp the bend between the thumb and forefinger of one hand, holding the tail end of the bent wire and the rest of the wire in your other thumb and forefinger, and twist the bent portion several times, just like tightening a screw.
