How Do You Make Hosiery (Pantyhose) Yarn Aka Harn?
Who says pantyhose are just for legs… Just because you get a run doesn’t mean they’re trash. This article provides detailed step-by-step instructions on how to process hosiery into yarn for any handcraft project. Lay pantyhose on cutting surface and fold in half. Cut the panty off at seam to legs. Lay each leg on top the other, even up toe and cut off about 1/2″ below seam. You have a tube with openings at each end. Lay these out on your ironing surface and iron each leg using a light heat setting. (Note: A polyester setting works perfect.) Ironing will stretch out the legs which will make cutting so much easier. You can the difference. Lay the ironed tube on cutting surface and fold the bottom up to within about 1/2″ from the top. Begin cutting strips starting from the bottom fold up to 1st fold. This leaves that 1/2″ area to top fold uncut (what I call the spine).
