How Do You Make Homemade Laundry Soap?
Making your own laundry soap is a safe and cost effective alternative to the pricey store-bought detergents. Avoid exposing your family to the unnecessary chemicals by using the steps here to make your own. Grate the soap into a saucepan. Add the water. Heat over a medium heat until the soap has melted, stirring continuously. Once melted, remove the saucepan from the stove. Fill the bucket about 1/2 full of hot water (make sure it is hot). Add in the soap, washing soap, and Borax. Stir until the powder has dissolved. Fill the remainder of the bucket with hot water and stir. Cover the bucket and allow the mixture to sit untouched for 24 hours. this will allow the detergent to thicken. When finished, it will be the consistency of a liquid gel. Pour the detergent into the container. You can use a plastic 40lb kitty litter container (cleaned thoroughly, of course), or use an old detergent container from a store-bought brand.
