Making your own cleansers is a great way to save money and know exactly what you are using to clean your home, since so many brand names out there are suspicious of causing illnesses. I am proud to say I have Amish relatives. These cleansers are tried and true for generations. Be sure to label your cleansers with ingredients and uses. AMAZING AMISH CLEANSER: (Use this for cleaning walls and taking wax off floors.) Mix together 1 C ammonia, 1/2 C vinegar, 1/4 C baking soda, and 1 gallon of water. Put in empty spray bottles for cleaning walls. AMISH COLD SOAP RECIPE: Combine 5 pints cold water, 2 cans of lye, 4 T. sugar, 4 T. ammonia, 1/2 C Sal Soda, 1/2 C Borox, 2 oz. glycerine, 1 oz. Oil of Sassafras, and 1 box Tide Detergent. Let come to the right temperature on the stove (lukewarm). Then pour this mixture into 10 lbs. of melted lard (NEVER pour the lard into the lye).
