How Do You Make Hillbilly Hot Dogs At Home?
My whole family enjoyed eating their hot dogs this way when I was growing up in Eastern Kentucky. It wasn’t until I moved away from the area that I realized hot dogs weren’t normally served with sauce and slaw. Then I came across some people that served them in the North, they called them “Hillbilly Hot Dogs”! First cook your hot dogs as you normally would or as specified by the package directions. You can even cook them on a grill if that is your favorite style! For the sauce, take your favorite sauce and mix it with fried ground hamburger. Or some people prefer to use their own recipe usually with ketchup and brown sugar. Either way, keep in mind hillbilly hot dogs don’t have beans! Now put you hot dog in a bun. Then top it with the sauce you have just made and with cole slaw. You now have yourself a traditional “Hillbilly Hot Dog” and as we call them in Eastern Kentucky, a hot dog. Top with mustard, ketchup, onions or whatever your favorite condiments may be.
