How Do You Make Gluten Free Flour Tortillas?
If you have celiac disease and are on a gluten free diet, tortillas can be one of the most difficult things to replace. Most corn tortillas are gluten free naturally and are a great substitute at home and at Mexican restaurants. But flour tortillas are almost always made with wheat flour. Here is a recipe to make flour tortillas gluten free. Combine dry ingredients in large bowl and mix thoroughly. Add water to the mixture and mix with your hands. Separate the dough into 6-8 equal parts. Roll them into balls, just larger than the size of a golf ball. Place a ball of dough in the center of a sheet of wax paper. Flatten with your hand. Cover with another sheet of wax paper. Roll with rolling pin into a circle about 8 inches in diameter. Carefully remove the top layer of wax paper. Flip the tortilla over (dough side down) onto a hot pan (medium heat) and pull the wax paper away. Be careful not to touch the pan with your hand. Cook on each side until golden brown.
