Glass cabochons add style and pizazz to jewelry. This tutorial will explain how to make fused glass cabochons in a small glass fusing kiln. Cut two ½ x ½ inch square pieces of COE compatible glass. Stack the glass and place it on the shelf of a glass fusing kiln . For round pieces, the pieces should be sitting in the opposite direction so they fuse into a circle. For square cabs, the glass should be placed so it is sitting square. Repeat until you have made desired number of cabochons in the size and shape you require. Place the prepared shelf in the glass fusing kiln. Fire using the following schedule as a guide: Ramp ºF/Hr Target temperature Hold for 1 Full 1630 5 Allow the cabochons to stay in the kiln until they have reached room temperature. Note that since you are making small cabs, no annealing ramp is required when firing the glass. If you make larger glass cabs, you will need to build in an annealing ramp.
