If you like to make your own cosmetics, lotions or aromatherapy oils, then you should be using dipropylene glycol (DPG) in your recipes. This compound is ideal for oils that will be used on the skin or to scent the air, as it is odorless, safe even for people with sensitive skin and will not alter the color of your concoctions. DPG is ideal for making nearly any type of fragrance oil or essential oil. Combine the essential oils, the DPG and the perfumer’s alcohol or vodka in the glass bottle. The combination will fill the bottle nearly all the way, but you should have some space left at the top. Shake the bottle gently. You should upend the bottle at least 10 times to thoroughly mix the DPG and the essential oils and alcohol. DPG is a “carrier oil” and helps the scents carry in the air. Of course, be sure that the bottle is sealed tightly before you begin shaking. Store the bottle in a cool, dark place for a month. Each day, you should shake the product gently at least once.
