Fountain pens are a sign of good handwriting. They are from a time when handwriting was a reflection of your character. Now, a few people use the–more as a preference for the smooth writing resulting from using the fountain pen. Inside the pen is a plastic cartridge that holds ink. This cartridge can be refilled with any ink you like, even ink you make yourself out of simple ingredients. Here are a few ideas. Make a dark blue ink by mixing 2 tablespoons of laundry bluing powder with 4 tablespoons of water. Stir it well and store in a small baby food jar. This will give you a deep rich blue ink for forming beautiful letters with your fountain pen. Create your own dark brown ink by simmering 5 or 6 black tea bags in 1/2 cup of water until it has reduced to 1/4 cup. Add 1 teaspoon of powdered gum arabic and stir well with a skewer.
