How Do You Make Fog Without Dry Ice?

0

Creating fog can easily be done with dry ice or a fog machine. However, if these aren’t readily available, small amounts of fog can be created without dry ice by using ice from your freezer. Creating fog is easy with items already in your home. It is also a fun and educational experience for children. This is also a great project for elementary or middle school science class. Tape black construction paper around one side of a 1-gallon glass jar. This will be the back of the jar. It should cover the back so that you cannot see through the jar. Fill a 1-gallon zip-top bag with ice. Add a couple drops of blue food coloring to 1 cup of warm water. Pour this in the jar. Mix with a spoon. Light the match and hold it over the opening of the jar for approximately 3 to 4 seconds. Hold it close to the opening, about 1/2 inch above the top of the jar. Drop the match into the jar. Immediately top the jar with the bag of ice. Fog should begin to form in the jar.
