How Do You Make Fluffy Buttercream Icing?
Want a buttercream icing that is light and fluffy but not too sweet? This recipe isn’t overpowered by the sugar. It fluffs up well and has a nice texture. Mix the crisco and butter together in a stand mixer. Add the vanilla and mix thoroughly again. Slowly add the powdered sugar until all mixed in. The icing will be very thick right now. . . don’t panic. Add a dash or two of salt, mix well. Add approximatly 2 tablespoons of milk and 2 tablespoons of corn syrup. Mix well. This part is kind of a “play it by ear” step. You will add more of each if you want to thin the icing. If you want a thicker icing, don’t add as much. Beat at medium/high speed until nice and fluffy. The corn syrup helps the icing flow better when piping or writing on a cake. The strings of icing are less likely to break as you move your hand along to write.
