How Do You Make Fireworks With Cardboard Tubes?
There are many different kinds of fireworks, including rockets, Roman candles and firecrackers. Most of them come in cardboard tubes, and many can be made at home. The simplest one of all is the humble firecracker. Fill a tube with flash powder, stick in a wick and you’ve got it. It makes a loud noise–and blows up any nearby army men. Make flash powder. Mix 30 percent aluminum powder and 70 percent potassium perchlorate by weight in a bag. (Follow the link in Resources to order supplies.) Get some firework tubes and end caps. The bigger the tube, the louder the firework. But keep in mind that thick tubes are more dangerous, and more likely to be illegal as well. Drill a hole in the side of your firework tube with a 1/8-inch bit. Make sure the hole doesn’t go through the other side.
