Make a ball of clay from cream- or brown-colored clay into the size you want your cupcake or cake to be. Flatten the bottom of the ball by pressing it into a flat surface or with a plastic butter knife. Use the butter knife to pat the sides flat. Press into the sides at an angle, pressing further into the bottom than top. This will create the puff top of the cupcake. Choose a color for the frosting.
