How Do You Make Fairy Wings For Polymer Clay?
Polymer clay is a great medium for creating miniature fairy sculptures with charming, detailed features and realistic skin texture. However, while polymer clay is hardened in a conventional oven, the best materials for making delicate, translucent fairy wings won’t survive this treatment. In order to make wings for your fairy sculpture, you must design the wings and unbaked sculpture so that both can be joined together after baking. Create a pattern for the wings. Sketch a wing shape on paper, or trace a pattern from a clipart directory, such as a butterfly wing or set of dragonfly wings. Add an extra rectangular section to the inside edge of the wing at the point where you want it to attach to the fairy’s back in order to form a “tab” for insertion. Cut out the outline when you’re satisfied with it. Use the pattern to cut two mirror-image wings from the cellophane.
