The difference between coffee and espresso can be confusing for many people, although the distinction is quite simple. Espresso is essentially concentrated coffee. It typically is made using an espresso machine, but can be made by various methods including a stove top espresso maker, a french press and using instant coffee. Espresso can be make by using a lot of coffee and a little hot water to create a stout, strong and full-bodied espresso. You can drink it plain, with milk as a latte or over ice during the hot months. Boil 1 cup of filtered water on the stove in a teakettle or a cooking pot. Bring the water to a boil and turn off immediately. Place 3 teaspoons of instant coffee in a coffee mug. Add 2 ounces of the boiling water to the instant coffee. Stir until the instant coffee is completely dissolved. Drink the espresso or use it to make a latte, mocha or an espresso macchiato.
