Few kids get excited about math drills. In fact, if they hear the word “math drills” they tend to run in the other direction. It doesn’t have to be that way. There are things you can do to make math drills fun. Place all of the cards face down. Have the children take turns the cards over two at a time as you would when playing concentration. Instead of looking for a match with the cards, the child should call out the sum, product or difference which will be decided before the game begins. For a younger child, you would play the game with addition and subtraction. With older kids you can do multiplication. With advanced kids, you can turn over a third number and multiply again. If you get the answer correct, then the player gets to keep the set of cards. Whoever has the most cards at the end of the game wins.
