Here’s how. Using sharp craft scissors, cut off the part that holds the thread on the back of the button. After cutting off the thread holder, the back of the button will be rough. Use the coarse nail file to smooth the surface. When it’s nearly smooth, use a finer grain nail file to make the surface smooth. Take a piece of tin foil and make a loose ball. You’ll be using this to set the button earring on while it dries, so be sure that the ball is not too tightly compacted at this point.
