How Do You Make Duvet Covers From Sheets?
Making duvet covers from sheets is an exceptionally easy sewing project, and requires only basic sewing skills for the buttonholes and seams. Additionally, since two flat sheets usually cost significantly less than a new comforter or duvet, this is an easy and inexpensive way to spruce up an old comforter or duvet that has gotten a hole or stain, but is still usable. The instructions offered here are for the simplest kind of duvet cover, and all you really need are two flat sheets of the appropriate size, some buttons, a needle and thread. Lay the two sheets out, one on top of the other, with the “right” sides facing each other. Use straight pins to pin the edges of the sheets together on three sides, leaving the cuffed edge of the sheets open. Sew the sheets together on the three pinned sides, removing the pins as you go along. If desired, for extra stability, create a double seam by sewing around the edges again. Trim any excess threads or fabric, and turn the sheets right side out.
