How Do You Make Different Colored Tie Dyed Shirts?
Made famous during the 1960s, tie dye has been popular ever since. Tie dye is simply different colored dyes applied to a cotton garment or fabric to form a design. However, to make the tie dye come out looking its best, there are a few extra steps that are needed. If you’ve been struggling with your tie dye, there may be a few reasons for it: either you’re not rubber banding your shirt; or you’re not pre-soaking the shirt in soda ash fixer water—or both. Soak the t-shirt you’d like to dye and then wring out most of the water. Place the t-shirt on a flat surface and smooth out any wrinkles. Place a clothes pin in the very middle of the t-shirt. Begin spinning the t-shirt, clockwise, until the shirt is wrapped around itself. Apply at least two rubber bands to the shirt, crisscrossing. The shirt will look like a pie with the rubber bands being the separate pie pieces. Each “piece” will get a different color. For more colors, add more rubber bands.
