If you’ve been struggling with your tie dye, there may be a few reasons for it: either you’re not rubber banding your shirt; or you’re not pre-soaking the shirt in soda ash fixer water—or both. Soak the t-shirt you’d like to dye and then wring out most of the water. Place the t-shirt on a flat surface and smooth out any wrinkles. Place a clothes pin in the very middle of the t-shirt. Begin spinning the t-shirt, clockwise, until the shirt is wrapped around itself. Apply at least two rubber bands to the shirt, crisscrossing.
