This is a yummy and entertaining recipe to make with children. Kids love to smash the tomatoes, squash the olives, and tear the basil. My niece and nephew (now 7 and 9) demand to make this when they see me, and they eat it happily–even though they don’t usually like tomatoes or olives. To prevent squabbles, when making this with kids, divide the ingredients evenly between them, and give them each their own deep mixing bowl to work in. If making the recipe with children, supervise hand washing before they begin. I usually have them each wash their hands three times, which they gleefully report at mealtime.
