How Do You Make Decorative Wooden Yard And Garden Stakes?
Yard and garden stakes add a touch of whimsy and permanent color to your outdoor living area and gardens. They can be as simple as a rectangular sign that is painted with your favorite saying or as complex as a flower with multiple petal patterns. This beginning wood working project is an inexpensive way to get your older children out of the house and learning how to use a jigsaw, drill and sander, skills that they will utilize forever. Draw the shape of an image that you would like to place on a stake in your garden onto a sheet of 3/4-inch plywood. Put on safety glasses and cut the shape and a 1-inch square out of the plywood with a jigsaw and sand each piece with a palm sander equipped with 120-grit sandpaper. Glue the 1-inch square piece to the center back of the shape with wood glue and allow it to dry for two hours. Drill a hole through the 1-inch piece of wood on the back of your yard art with a 1/8-inch drill bit on your drill. Paint the front and back of the shape with acrylic
